The Rock n’ Roll, Vocal, and GRAMMY® Halls of Fame group The Platters® (theplatters.com), minted members of the Marvel® Cinematic Universe® (MCU) music family, will bring their acclaimed Very Merry Christmas Show to the Elmasian Auditorium in East Providence on Friday, December 20, 2024. The performance will benefit East Providence Heritage Arts Inc.
The Platters, founded and named by Herb Reed in the 1950s, today consist of Lance Bernard Bryant, Omar Ross, Jovian K. Ford, and Brittney Necole Bellamy. Collectively, they lend their harmonically smooth voices to the show that takes the audience on a festive soiree via a magical, interactive, sonically driven sleigh ride powered by music across the decades that includes their major classic hits, including The Great Pretender, My Prayer, and Smoke Gets In Your Eyes as well as family fun holiday classics geared toward a night of joyful memories and family fun. Michael Larson, Reed’s longtime accompanist will lead The Platters five-piece band.
The Platters became citizens of the MCU in 2021, with one of their timeless hits, Twilight Time, used to launch the breakthrough Marvel® — Disney+® streaming television series WandaVision. This past July, Only You (and You Alone) the song that first launched the vocal group onto the national music charts, recently took the top spot on the critically acclaimed soundtrack of Marvel’s international blockbuster Deadpool &Wolverine.
According to music creator Frederick J. Balboni, Jr. (bcg-hre.com), Reed’s hand-picked, direct successor and international keeper of his legacy said, “We’re happy to return to celebrate the season with dancing in the aisles and singing in the streets.” He continued, “Our family show will have plenty of surprises including a much-rumored special guest appearance by Santa himself. The show is a great centerpiece for a family holiday celebration!"
